前NBA传奇中锋奥尼尔将成为萨克拉门托国王队旗下的电竞队伍Kings Guard Gaming（国王卫队）总经理，该队将在今年5月参加NBA旗下的2K联赛。
对于本次任职奥尼尔表示，“我非常期待在国王卫队这支队伍中中所扮演的角色，在这里，我会像在音乐领域、娱乐领域、电视领域一样成功，我会帮助他们打造2K历史最成功的战队。不过奥尼尔所负责的具体工作目前尚未可知。
NBA2K联赛是Take-Two和NBA合作推出的篮球电竞联赛，主要由NBA球队开设分部，组织电竞战队并参与比赛。据悉，在去年10月NBA官方曾表示已有17支NBA球队加入NBA 2K电竞联赛，整体赛事组织和直播工作将由NBA负责。据报道，每支2K球队将在4月4日完成6名队员的选秀，首个赛季将在今年5月打响，届时从国王守卫将和联盟其余16支电子竞技队进行对抗比赛。
