E3 2020至今已经经历了数次变故，自Devolver Digital的推文警告，到ESA宣布重新考虑今年E3的形式，再到3月中旬宣布正在联系各大发行商，举办线上E3。
近日，ESA再次声明，根据最近的消息，因为疫情原因，许多发行商连线上展会的提议都很难接受，或许本周将会做出决定，一并取消线上展会的计划。
记者Mike Futter在推特上爆料，ESA没有自己举办一个线上E3的计划，而是“依靠合作伙伴”进行活动。因此许多公司都在质疑E3的线上发布计划对于自己的营销毫无作用，不如直接按照自己的时间表去推广游戏。
许多失去了存在价值的游戏周边行业都在萎缩
这次疫情也暴露了ESA的空洞，除了线下提供齐聚一堂的舞台和理由，E3实际上并不能给与参展商实质性的服务。在这个注重互联网经济和去中心化的时代，不思进取的E3已经渐渐地被发行商和行业抛弃。
今年是二十五年来首次取消的E3展会，在此之前，又发生了索尼连续两年缺席的决定，也许这就是E3展会开始走下坡路的拐点，如果E3成为最后一个大型综合游戏展吗？
